Osservando dipinti come Grace and power e Eclipse, si rivela con chiarezza l'intento dell'artista di condurre lo spettatore in uno spazio intimo e simbolico, in cui il corpo umano si trasforma in figura allegorica del vissuto più intimo. Grace and power si presenta come una poetica ode alla luce, ritraendo una giovane donna - avvolta da raggi dorati che filtrano da una finestra - colta nell'atto di socchiudere gli occhi in un gesto di abbandono e raccoglimento interiore. Mkrtchyan padroneggia la luce con finezza, esaltando la chioma ramata della protagonista attraverso accenti cromatici vibranti, in netto contrasto con le ombre delle persiane che si proiettano sulla pelle come tatuaggi effimeri di un istante. La luce, qui, non si limita a rischiarare: assume un ruolo narrativo, quasi fosse una lente rivelatrice capace di dischiudere i significati più reconditi dell'opera. L'interiorità della figura affiora sulla superficie pittorica con una grazia quasi cinematografica, evocando tanto le atmosfere della pittura barocca quanto la sensibilità della fotografia contemporanea.

L'altro dipinto, dal titolo Eclipse, si staglia come un'immagine sospesa ed intensa in cui una figura nuda, resa mediante una gamma cromatica calda e terrosa, si curva in una postura che suggerisce vulnerabilità e raccoglimento. Alle sue spalle, una donna — dai tratti più evanescenti — si slancia all'indietro con le braccia aperte, come spinta da un moto interiore che la proietta verso la luce. Non c'è solo contrasto cromatico tra i toni caldi che scolpiscono il corpo in primo piano e i toni freddi dello sfondo, ma una dialettica silenziosa tra fermezza e slancio, tra peso e fuga. È come assistere a un respiro trattenuto, a un istante che vibra sul margine della trasformazione. Si avverte nelle opere di questa artista una sospensione intensa, una poetica del non detto, dove ogni silenzio è carico di attesa e tensione. Il corpo, più che mostrarsi, allude: si fa dimora di emozioni, di memorie stratificate, di pensieri ancora in cerca di voce. Sguardi che sfuggono, mani mani che tradiscono un'irrequietezza latente, ombre leggere — tutto parla, ma sottovoce.

Zarine Mkrtchyan sembra dirci che la pittura, prima ancora di essere visione, è ascolto. Sono immagini che non chiedono attenzione, ma la conquistano. Entrano piano, lasciando un segno che resta.

Zarine Mkrtchyan - The silent universe of body and light

A figurative artist, Zarine Mkrtchyan constructs a visual universe woven with subtle tensions and profound suggestions. Her works reveal a sharp sensitivity in conveying the complexity of human experience, where the body becomes a vehicle for introspection and a symbol of suspended emotional states. Her pictorial approach—both lyrical and rigorous—opens up threshold spaces between reality and dream, between chiaroscuro and revelation, between physical presence and inner dimension.

In paintings such as Grace and Power and Eclipse, the artist's intent becomes strikingly clear: to lead the viewer into an intimate, symbolic realm where the human body transforms into an allegorical figure of inner life. Grace and Power emerges as a poetic ode to light, portraying a young woman—enveloped in golden rays filtering through a window—captured in the act of gently closing her eyes, a gesture of surrender and inward reflection. 

Mkrtchyan masterfully handles light, enhancing the subject's copper hair with vibrant chromatic accents in stark contrast to the shadows of the blinds, which fall across her skin like fleeting tattoos of a moment. Here, light does not merely illuminate; it takes on a narrative function, becoming a revealing lens capable of unveiling the work's most hidden meanings. The figure's inner life rises to the surface of the painting with an almost cinematic grace, evoking both the atmosphere of Baroque painting and the sensibility of contemporary photography. 

The other painting, titled Eclipse, stands out as a suspended and intense image, in which a nude figure—rendered in warm, earthy tones—bends into a posture that suggests vulnerability and introspective retreat. Behind her, another woman—more ethereal in appearance—leans backward with outstretched arms, as if propelled by an inner impulse that drives her toward the light. There is not only a chromatic contrast between the warm hues that sculpt the foreground body and the cool tones of the background, but also a silent dialogue between stillness and impulse, between weight and escape.

It feels like witnessing a held breath, a moment trembling on the edge of transformation. Mkrtchyan's works convey an intense sense of suspension—a poetics of the unspoken, where every silence is charged with anticipation and tension. The body, rather than revealing itself, alludes; it becomes a dwelling for emotions, layered memories, and thoughts still searching for a voice. Elusive glances, hands betraying a quiet unrest, subtle shadows — everything speaks, but only in a whisper.

Zarine Mkrtchyan seems to tell us that painting, before being a vision, is an act of listening. These are images that do not ask for attention—they claim it. They enter quietly, but leave a lasting impression.
