Il 13 febbraio, le prestigiose sale del Museo d'Arte e Scienza apriranno le porte alla cerimonia di premiazione degli Olympus Arts Awards. Tra i nomi selezionati per la Sezione Arti Visive, emerge la figura di Aranka Szekely, premiata per la sua capacità di tradurre in pittura il mistero della vita e la forza della natura. 

1. Vita, amore, natura. Sono questi i temi che mi hanno affascinato quando ho visto "Parents of the Earth", l'opera con cui hai partecipato e vinto gli Olympus Arts Awards. Quanto sono collegati, secondo te? E che importanza hanno per te?

« L'ho dipinto quando sono stata informata del più grande miracolo al mondo: mia figlia era incinta. La vita sulla terra è sostenuta dalla maternità, dall'amore, dall'affetto e dal rinnovamento eterno. Il senso della vita è dato dal crescere la propria prole. Il senso della vita è il rinnovamento eterno, fondato sull'amore, sulla felicità e sulla fiducia nel futuro. Ogni nascita è un miracolo della natura che vive dentro di noi e noi viviamo nella natura; non possiamo esistere l'uno senza l'altra. »

2. Quale ruolo pensi che debba avere l'arte oggi? E quale messaggio cerchi di trasmettere con le tue opere?

« Le arti sono state necessarie in ogni epoca, a partire dalle pitture rupestri dell'uomo preistorico. Rendono la vita più facile e più bella, aiutano le persone a superare i problemi quotidiani. Mi sono chiesta come sarebbe la vita senza colori, dipinti, musica, libri o opere teatrali e film, o senza tutte le correnti artistiche. Il mondo sarebbe invivibile, desolato e grigio. Voglio offrire un'esperienza piacevole agli spettatori, voglio trasmettere calma, amore, pace e gioia alle persone, per rendere la vita più facile. Mi sta bene che le mie opere inducano alla riflessione e siano un po' misteriose. » 

3. Definiresti il "fare arte" come un bisogno? 

« Sicuramente. Si potrebbe vivere senza le arti, ma perché farlo? Non voglio vivere in un mondo desolato, grigio e noioso. Per me personalmente, l'arte aiuta a ridurre lo stress della vita quotidiana che sperimento come medico. Quando creo, chiudo fuori il mondo esterno ed entro in una sorta di flusso beatificante. » 

4. Se potessi incontrare un artista del passato, chi sarebbe? 

« Ammiro l'opera di Leonardo da Vinci, il fatto che sia stato contemporaneamente un poliedrico genio e un artista misterioso. Mi sarebbe piaciuto molto imparare da lui. Avrei molte domande da porgli, mi piacerebbe saperne di più sulle muse dei suoi dipinti e sull'epoca in cui ha vissuto e creato. »

Olympus Arts Awards: interview with Aranka Szekely

On February 13th, the prestigious halls of the Museum of Art and Science will open their doors to the Olympus Arts Awards ceremony. Among the names selected for the Visual Arts section, Aranka Szekely stands out, honored for her ability to translate the mystery of life and the power of nature into painting.

1. Life, love, nature. These are the themes that fascinated me when I saw "Parents of the Earth," the work with which you participated in and won the Olympus Arts Awards. How connected are they, in your opinion? And what importance do they hold for you?

« I painted it when I was informed of the greatest miracle in the world: my daughter was pregnant. Life on earth is sustained by motherhood, love, affection, and eternal renewal. The meaning of life is found in raising one's offspring. The meaning of life is eternal renewal, founded on love, happiness, and trust in the future. Every birth is a miracle of nature that lives within us, and we live within nature; we cannot exist without one another.»

2. What role do you think art should play today? And what message do you try to convey through your works?

« The arts have been necessary in every era, starting from the cave paintings of prehistoric man. They make life easier and more beautiful; they help people overcome daily struggles. I've asked myself what life would be like without colors, paintings, music, books, plays, and films—or without all the artistic movements. The world would be unlivable, desolate, and gray. I want to offer a pleasant experience to viewers; I want to transmit calm, love, peace, and joy to people to make life easier. I am happy for my works to provoke reflection and be a little mysterious.»

3. Would you define "making art" as a need?

« Definitely. One could live without the arts, but why do so? I don't want to live in a desolate, gray, and boring world. For me personally, art helps reduce the stress of daily life that I experience as a doctor. When I create, I shut out the outside world and enter a sort of beatific flow.»

4. If you could meet an artist from the past, who would it be?

« I admire the work of Leonardo da Vinci—the fact that he was simultaneously a multifaceted genius and a mysterious artist. I would have loved to learn from him. I would have many questions to ask him; I'd like to know more about the muses in his paintings and about the era in which he lived and created.»

5. Future projects?

« Recently, I have created some series in an expressionist-symbolist style. I would like to continue in a similar vein with a theme that is still a secret.»
