In occasione della Mostra Internazionale "Italy calls the world" che si svolgerà a New York dal 21 giugno presso la Fridman Gallery, abbiamo avuto il piacere di intervistare Mariam Manukyan tra gli artisti selezionati per questo evento in videoesposizione.

1. Quando hai scoperto la tua passione e come hai capito che si trattava di un vero e proprio bisogno spirituale?

Ho scoperto la mia passione per l'arte molto presto, ma per lungo tempo non l'ho vista come qualcosa di "separato" da me: era semplicemente il modo in cui interpretavo il mondo. In seguito, ho capito che dipingere non è solo una scelta o una professione per me, ma una necessità. È diventata un linguaggio attraverso il quale posso esprimere ciò che non può essere detto a parole. A un certo punto, ho capito che quando non creo, perdo il contatto con me stessa. È stato allora che ho capito che non si tratta solo di passione, ma di un bisogno spirituale.

2. Cosa significa per te questa opportunità a New York e quali emozioni stai provando?

Per me, questa mostra a New York è un passo molto importante, sia a livello emotivo che artistico. Mostrare le mie opere su una piattaforma digitale così ampia significa che il mio mondo interiore viene condiviso con un pubblico più vasto, al di là dei confini e delle lingue. Provo un misto di entusiasmo, gratitudine e una certa vulnerabilità, perché le mie opere sono molto personali. Allo stesso tempo, mi sento forte, come se la mia voce di artista stesse diventando più visibile e reale.

3. Parlaci delle opere selezionate per questo evento e di cosa speri di trasmettere attraverso di esse:

Le opere selezionate per questa mostra sono profondamente legate alle emozioni umane, alla trasformazione interiore e alla percezione. Spesso esploro la relazione tra la realtà e qualcosa che la trascende, quasi come uno strato nascosto dell'esistenza. Attraverso queste opere, desidero che gli spettatori si fermino a sentire, piuttosto che analizzare. Il mio obiettivo non è dare risposte, ma aprire uno spazio in cui le persone possano entrare in contatto con le proprie emozioni attraverso il mio linguaggio visivo.

4. Se potessi incontrare un artista del passato e osservare le sue opere, chi sceglieresti?

Sceglierei Salvador Dalí. Mi sento vicino alla sua visione del mondo, dove i confini della realtà sembrano svanire e tutto è plasmato da immagini interiori e sogni. È stato capace di trasformare l'inconscio in un linguaggio visivo che risulta allo stesso tempo strano e profondamente preciso nelle sue emozioni. Sarei molto interessato a vedere come lavora nel momento presente, come nascono le sue idee e come riesce a mantenere una tale libertà di pensiero nella sua arte.

5. Se dovessi descrivere la tua arte in tre parole, quali sceglieresti?

Emozionale. Simbolica. Intuitiva.

Interview with May Yan (Mariam Manukyan), one of the protagonists of the event "Italy Calls the World"

On the occasion of the International Exhibition "Italy Calls the World," which will take place in New York from June 21st at the Fridman Gallery, we had the pleasure of interviewing Mariam Manukyan, one of the artists selected for this video exhibition event.

1.When did you discover your passion and how did you realize it was a true spiritual need?

I discovered my passion for art very early in life, but for a long time I didn't see it as something "separate" from me — it was simply the way I understood the world. Later, I realized that painting is not just a choice or a profession for me, but a necessity. It became a language through which I can express what cannot be said in words. At some point, I understood that when I don't create, I lose connection with myself. That's when I realized it is not just passion — it is a spiritual need.

2. What does this opportunity in New York mean to you, and what emotions are you experiencing?

For me, this exhibition in New York is a very important step — both emotionally and artistically. Showing my work on such a large digital platform means that my inner world is being shared with a wider audience, beyond borders and language. I feel a mix of excitement, gratitude, and a certain vulnerability, because my works are very personal. At the same time, I feel strong — as if my voice as an artist is becoming more visible and more real.

3. Tell us about the works selected for this event and what you hope to convey through them:

The works selected for this exhibition are deeply connected to human emotions, inner transformation, and perception. I often explore the relationship between reality and something beyond it — almost like a hidden layer of existence. Through these works, I want viewers to pause and feel rather than analyze. My goal is not to give answers, but to open a space where people can meet their own emotions through my visual language.

4. If you could meet an artist from the past and observe their work, who would you choose?

I would choose Salvador Dalí. I feel close to his perception of the world, where the boundaries of reality seem to disappear and everything is shaped by inner images and dreams. He was able to turn the subconscious into a visual language that feels both strange and deeply precise in its emotions. I would be very interested to see how he works in the moment, how his ideas are born, and how he maintains such freedom of thought in his art.

5. If you had to describe your art in three words, which ones would you choose?

Emotional. Symbolic. Intuitive.
