Il 13 febbraio, le prestigiose sale del Museo d'Arte e Scienza di Milano apriranno le porte alla cerimonia di premiazione degli Olympus Arts Awards. Tra i nomi selezionati per la categoria Arti Visive spiccano i nomi di Maria e Stella Papa, due sorelle gemelle e pittrici.

1. Maria e Stella, due sorelle pittrici. Come è nata la vostra passione?

M.P.: La mia passione per la pittura è nata da bambina. Amavo la libertà che mi dava e, appena ho potuto, ho preso lezioni. Da allora, il mio amore per l'arte non ha fatto che crescere.

S.P.: La mia passione per la pittura è "nata" quando le parole non bastavano più a esprimere ciò che la mia anima provava e i pensieri che si annidavano nella mia mente.

2. Cosa vi ispira a creare le vostre opere?

M.P.: Le mie fonti di ispirazione includono momenti meravigliosi della natura, come le diverse sfumature del cielo. Traggo ispirazione anche da scene di teatro e cinema, così come da momenti umani significativi, come passeggiate, abbracci e interazioni quotidiane.

S.P.: La mia fonte di ispirazione sono le persone e le loro emozioni, le storie nascoste nei loro occhi e i pensieri imprigionati nel loro sguardo.

3. Maria, i tuoi dipinti, vincitori degli Olympus Arts Awards, raffigurano entrambi degli amanti. Potresti parlarci di questo tema, di come lo rappresenti nell'arte e di quale importanza riveste per te?

L'amore è un tema centrale nel mio lavoro, espresso attraverso l'intimità, la connessione emotiva e i legami inespressi tra gli individui. Il mio obiettivo è catturare l'atmosfera e il sentimento dell'amore piuttosto che rappresentarlo in modo letterale. Per me, l'amore è un'esperienza umana fondamentale che unisce le persone al di là delle parole e delle culture.

4. Stella, nelle tue opere, colori e forme si fondono per creare volti speciali. Da dove nasce questa idea? Vuoi raccontarci di più sui tuoi personaggi e sulla tua tecnica?

Credo che non ci sia modo migliore per esprimere emozioni, pensieri e riflessioni che dar loro una forma umana. Lo sguardo e il volto dell'attore greco Tasos Nousias, a mio parere, sono il mezzo ideale per dare "voce" a ciò che la bocca non può esprimere. Mi piace usare molti colori per mostrare quante emozioni diverse le persone possano provare. Uso molte forme per mostrare quante fasi e forme attraversino le nostre vite. I volti sono sempre neri per mostrare quanto sia importante l'essere umano nella società.

5. Un'ultima domanda per entrambi: se poteste incontrare un artista del passato, chi scegliereste?

M.P.: Se potessi incontrare un artista del passato, sceglierei Van Gogh. Adoro il modo in cui i suoi dipinti sono pieni di emozione e vita. Sono anche affascinato dagli artisti postimpressionisti, perché hanno creato scene così belle di paesaggi e vita quotidiana, ma con la loro espressione e il loro sentimento unici.

s.p.: Vorrei incontrare Picasso, uno dei massimi rappresentanti del Cubismo, che, come me, ha cercato di rappresentare diverse prospettive di un soggetto, dividendo e ricostruendo gli oggetti in forme più astratte. Vorrei che mi spiegasse alcune delle sue opere più complesse e difficili da comprendere.

Olympus Arts Awards: interview with Maria and Stella Papa

On February 13th, the prestigious halls of the Museum of Art and Science in Milan will open their doors to the Olympus Arts Awards ceremony. Among the names selected for the Visual Arts category are Maria and Stella Papa, twin sisters and painters.

1. Maria and Stella, two painter sisters. How did your passion begin?

M.P.: My passion for painting started when I was a child. I loved the freedom it gave me, and as soon as I could, I took lessons. Since then, my love for art has only grown.

S.P : My passion for painting was "born" when words were no longer enough to express what my soul was feeling and the thoughts that were nesting in my mind.

2. What inspires you to create your works?

M.P.: My sources of inspiration include beautiful moments found in nature, such as the varying shades of the sky. I am also inspired by scenes from theatres and cinema, as well as meaningful human moments, including walks, embraces, and everyday interactions.

S.P: My source of inspiration is people and their emotions, the stories hidden in their eyes, and the thoughts imprisoned in their gaze.

3. Maria, your paintings, winners of the Olympus Arts Awards, both feature lovers. Could you tell us about this theme, how you represent it in art, and what importance it holds for you?

Love is a central theme in my work, expressed through intimacy, emotional connection, and unspoken bonds between individuals. I aim to capture the atmosphere and feeling of love rather than represent it in a literal way. For me, love is a fundamental human experience that connects people beyond words and cultures.

4. Stella, in your works, colors and shapes blend to create special faces. Where did this idea come from? Would you like to tell us more about your characters and your technique?

s.p: I believe there is no better way to express emotions, thoughts, and reflections than to give them a human form.The gaze and the face of Greek actor Tasos Nousias, in my opinion, are the ideal means to give a "voice" to what the mouth cannot express.I like to use many colors to show how many different emotions people can feel.I use many shapes to show how many forms and phases our lives go through.The faces are always black to show how important the human being is in society.

5. One last question for both of you: if you could meet an artist from the past, who would you choose?

M.P.: If I could meet an artist from the past, I would choose Van Gogh. I love how his paintings are full of emotion and life. I'm also fascinated by Post-Impressionist artists, because they created such beautiful scenes of landscapes and everyday life, but with their own unique expression and feeling.

s.p: I would like to meet Picasso, one of the greatest representatives of Cubism, who, like me, tried to depict different perspectives of a subject, by dividing and reconstructing objects into more abstract forms. I would like him to explain some of his most complex and difficult-to-understand works.
