La scelta di rappresentare la stessa figura in tre "versioni" differenti genera una sovrapposizione di piani temporali e psicologici: non siamo di fronte a un semplice ritratto, ma ad una narrazione simbolica dell'interiorità. Il titolo stesso del dipinto è una chiave di lettura essenziale. Sdango ci invita a guardare oltre la superficie, a riconoscere la complessità dell'individuo, le sue molteplici maschere, ma anche le sue fasi emotive.
