Intervista all'artista Alessandra Marcon in occasione della sua partecipazione alla Fiera Internazionale d'Arte Contemporanea "Art Shopping" presso Le Salles du Carrousel du Louvre a Parigi (Stand B47)

1. Ciao Alessandra, come stai? Dopo la brillante esposizione a New York, ci ritroviamo nella romantica Parigi. Quali sono le tue emozioni nel presentare i tuoi lavori all'interno della vetrina internazionale di 'Art Shopping'?

Ciao Ilaria, devo innanzitutto ringraziarti tantissimo per la grande opportunità di presentare le mie modeste opere. Sono felice ed emozionata all'avvicinarsi della mostra ed anche abbastanza incredula che proprio io possa partecipare ad un evento di questa portata.

2. Onda e Aurora boreale sono due delle opere che porterai in video esposizione. Mi piace l'idea di metterle in parallelo: la prima evoca un elemento naturale come il mare, la seconda un fenomeno transitorio come l'aurora boreale. Entrambe, però, sono dotate di una forza primordiale che sfugge al controllo umano. Come sono nate queste opere e da dove scaturisce la volontà di rappresentare queste forze della natura?

Per me la natura è sacra: i fenomeni naturali sono quanto di più meraviglioso e magico e sono nutrimento per il corpo e per l'anima.

Qualche anno fa per un periodo di tempo sono stata proprio ossessionata dalle aurore boreali, addirittura ho partecipato ad un corso specificamente per acquisire le competenze per dipingerle, da lì è nato questo acquerello ed una serie di altri, sempre sullo stesso tema ma con ambientazioni diverse.

La magia delle luci dell'aurora boreale mi incantano e risvegliano in me ricordi di qualcosa che non so spiegare razionalmente, come un ricordo di un altro tempo ed un altro luogo.

Le onde del mare invece sono come un'attrazione verso questo mondo, come un radicamento nell'impermanenza. Posso rimanere a guardare le onde del mare in tempesta per ore intere, come una forma di meditazione.

3. Abbracciando il drago, la terza opera, ci riporta invece nel tuo universo spirituale, lo stesso che ha già lasciato il segno a New York (penso alla tua opera La Fenice). Il drago e la fenice sono creature leggendarie sacre che, insieme, costituiscono la metafora visiva più celebre dello Yin e dello Yang nella cultura orientale. Cosa rappresentano per te queste figure e con quale frequenza ritornano nella tua produzione artistica?

Il drago rappresenta la mia ombra, cioè i lati del mio carattere, della mia vita che non mi piacciono, che vorrei rifiutare. Abbracciare quindi questo drago è necessario per completare la mia anima, per liberarmi dai miei tabù e complessi. È un lavoro lungo e difficile ma veramente utile. Ecco, questo è il significato di quest'opera per me.

Inoltre sia il drago che la fenice hanno a che fare con il fuoco, il fuoco che rinnova e purifica. Ciclicamente il drago ritorna nei miei dipinti, in tutte le forme, come un totem.

4. Restando su questo piano intimo, definiresti le tue opere come il ritratto del tuo io interiore?

Eh, direi proprio di sì. Direi che sono il ritratto delle mie lotte, delle mie sfide, delle mie conquiste, della mia visione del mondo.

5. Grazie per il tuo tempo e le tue parole, Alessandra. L'ultima domanda la uso per chiederti a cosa stai lavorando ultimamente e se ci sono già progetti in serbo per il futuro.

In questo periodo, dato che ho traslocato in un posto vicino al mare, mi sto concentrando soprattutto su soggetti marini e naturali, dipingendo quello che mi circonda.

The Nature of the Soul: Alessandra Marcon at the Carrousel du Louvre

1. Hello Alessandra, how are you? After your brilliant exhibition in New York, we meet again in romantic Paris. How do you feel about presenting your works as part of the international showcase of 'Art Shopping'?

Hello Ilaria, first of all, I must thank you so much for the great opportunity to present my modest works. I am happy and excited as the exhibition approaches, and also quite incredulous that I am participating in an event of this magnitude.

2. Wave and Northern Lights are two of the works you will be bringing to the video exhibition. I like the idea of drawing a parallel between them: the first evokes a natural element like the sea, while the second represents a transitory phenomenon like the aurora borealis. Yet both possess a primordial force that escapes human control. How were these works born, and where does the desire to represent these forces of nature stem from?

For me, nature is sacred: natural phenomena are among the most wonderful and magical things, serving as nourishment for both body and soul.

A few years ago, I was truly obsessed with the northern lights for a period of time. I even took a specific course to acquire the skills to paint them; from that, this watercolor was born, along with a series of others on the same theme but in different settings.

The magic of the lights of the northern lights enchants me and awakens memories of something I cannot rationally explain—like a memory from another time and another place.

The waves of the sea, on the other hand, represent a kind of attraction toward this world, like a grounding in impermanence. I can stay and watch the storm-tossed ocean waves for hours, almost as a form of meditation.

3. Embracing the Dragon, your third work, brings us back into your spiritual universe—the same one that already left its mark in New York (I am thinking of your piece The Phoenix). The dragon and the phoenix are sacred legendary creatures that together form the most famous visual metaphor of Yin and Yang in Eastern culture. What do these figures represent to you, and how often do they reappear in your artistic work?

The dragon represents my shadow—that is, the sides of my character and my life that I dislike and would prefer to reject. Therefore, embracing this dragon is necessary to complete my soul and free myself from my taboos and complexes. It is a long and difficult journey, but a truly rewarding one.

That is the meaning behind this piece for me.

Furthermore, both the dragon and the phoenix are associated with fire—the element that renews and purifies. Cyclically, the dragon returns to my paintings in all different forms, like a totem.

4. Remaining on this intimate plane, would you define your works as a portrait of your inner self?

Yes, I really would. I would say they are a portrait of my struggles, my challenges, my achievements, and my worldview.

5. Thank you for your time and your words, Alessandra. For my final question, I would like to ask what you are currently working on and if you already have plans lined up for the future.

Lately, since I moved to a place near the sea, I have been focusing mainly on marine and natural subjects, painting my surrounding environment.
