Intervista all'artista Ioan Fratutiu, tra i protagonisti dell'evento "Italy calls the World"

In occasione della Mostra Internazionale "Italy calls the world" che si svolgerà a New York dal 21 giugno presso la Fridman Gallery, abbiamo avuto il piacere di intervistare ioan Fratutiu tra gli artisti selezionati per questo evento in videoesposizione.
1. Per cominciare, racconta ai nostri lettori quando hai scoperto la tua passione e come hai capito che si trattava di un vero e proprio bisogno spirituale?
Buongiorno. La mia passione per la pittura è nata fin dall'infanzia, guardando e ammirando le opere dei grandi maestri. All'inizio dipingere era solo un hobby e un modo per rilassarmi. Tuttavia, la svolta è arrivata dopo ben 27 anni di lavoro in miniera come soccorritore minerario: in quel momento mi si è presentata un'opportunità che ho colto al volo. Nel 2022 ho avuto la possibilità di allestire la mia prima mostra personale presso la Galleria Iosif Telman di Lupeni, sotto la guida del mio professore Simonel Bucur, riscuotendo un successo del tutto inaspettato. È stato allora che ho capito che la pittura non era più solo un passatemp, ma una reale necessità dell'anima.
2. In questa mostra newyorkese, le tue opere saranno esposte in formato digitale sul maxi-schermo della galleria. Cosa significa per te questa opportunità e quali emozioni stai provando?
Sono molto emozionato, è un traguardo importante.
3. Parlateci delle opere selezionate per questo evento e di ciò che sperate di trasmettere attraverso di esse:
Riguardo ai dipinti in mostra, posso raccontarvi che aprono una finestra su un mondo in cui l'uomo vive in perfetta armonia con la natura.
L'opera dal titolo At the foot of the colossus "Dolomites", nasce dal mio amore per le loro forme geomorfologiche uniche, che fanno parte del patrimonio UNESCO. I monti simboleggiano la forza, la maestosità della natura, la libertà, la resistenza e la vicinanza al divino o alla spiritualità; suggeriscono il cammino stesso della vita, fatto di ostacoli ma anche della bellezza di andare sempre avanti.
"La veglia del pastore" rappresenta un pastore che, insieme ai suoi cani, sorveglia un gregge di pecore lungo il percorso della transumanza. Questo pastore proviene dalla Valle del Jiu, nella contea di Hunedoara, la zona in cui sono nato e cresciuto. L'immagine del pastore simboleggia la responsabilità, la cura, la protezione della famiglia e della comunità, la pazienza, la fede e la vita dell'uomo semplice. Trasmette un profondo senso di pace, sicurezza ed equilibrio interiore.
Il terzo dipinto raffigura una donna che porta le mucche al pascolo al mattino, accompagnata da un cane da guardia. Questa figura esprime la vita autentica e semplice, il legame dell'uomo con la terra, il lavoro sereno e dignitoso, la fertilità e l'armonia rurale. La presenza della donna aggiunge un tocco di calore umano e sensibilità.
L'intera collezione parla di pace interiore, tradizione e della bellezza di un'esistenza vissuta a stretto contatto con la natura. Spero che chi osserva queste opere si senta invitato a rallentare il ritmo frenetico del mondo moderno, per riscoprire la calma, la fede e l'equilibrio che solo la natura sa offrire.
4. Se potessi incontrare un artista del passato e osservare le sei opere, chi sceglieresti?
Fin da bambino sono rimasto affascinato dai grandi maestri del nostro tempo. Se potessi sceglierne alcuni da incontrare e osservare da vicino, la mia mente andrebbe subito a giganti come Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raffaello Sanzio, Caravaggio, Rembrandt e Monet. Accanto a loro, sento un legame profondo anche con i grandi pittori della mia terra, come Nicolae Grigorescu e Ștefan Luchian – quest'ultimo universalmente noto come "il pittore dei fiori". Ognuno di loro ha lasciato un'impronta indelebile sul mio modo di vedere l'arte.
5. Se dovessi descrivere la tua arte in tre parole, quali sceglieresti?
Se dovessi riassumere l'essenza e il messaggio profondo dei miei dipinti in tre parole chiave, sceglierei senza dubbio: Equilibrio, Tradizione e Armonia.

Interview with artist Ioan Fratutiu, one of the protagonists of the event "Italy Calls the World"
On the occasion of the International Exhibition "Italy Calls the World," which will take place in New York from June 21st at the Fridman Gallery, we had the pleasure of interviewing Ioan Fratutiu, one of the artists selected for this video exhibition event.
1. To begin, tell our readers when you discovered your passion and how you realized it was a true spiritual need?
Good morning. My passion for painting was born in childhood, while looking at and admiring the works of the great masters. At first, painting was just a hobby and a way to relax. However, the turning point came after 27 years of working in the mines as a mine rescuer: at that moment, an opportunity presented itself that I jumped at. In 2022, I had the opportunity to hold my first solo exhibition at the Iosif Telman Gallery in Lupeni, under the guidance of my professor Simonel Bucur, and it was a completely unexpected success. It was then that I realized that painting was no longer just a pastime, but a true need of the soul.
2. In this New York exhibition, your works will be displayed digitally on the gallery's giant screen. What does this opportunity mean to you, and what emotions are you feeling?
I'm very excited; this is a significant milestone.
3. Tell us about the works selected for this event and what you hope to convey through them:
Regarding the paintings on display, I can tell you that they open a window onto a world where humans live in perfect harmony with nature.
The work, titled "At the foot of the colossus" "Dolomites," was born from my love for their unique geomorphological forms, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Mountains symbolize strength, the majesty of nature, freedom, endurance, and closeness to the divine or spirituality; they suggest the very path of life, filled with obstacles but also with the beauty of always moving forward.
"The Shepherd's Vigil" depicts a shepherd, accompanied by his dogs, watching over a flock of sheep along the transhumance trail. This shepherd hails from the Jiu Valley in Hunedoara County, the area where I was born and raised. The image of the shepherd symbolizes responsibility, care, protection of family and community, patience, faith, and the life of a simple man. It conveys a profound sense of peace, security, and inner balance.
The third painting depicts a woman leading her cows to pasture in the morning, accompanied by a guard dog. This figure expresses authentic and simple life, man's connection to the land, serene and dignified work, fertility, and rural harmony. The woman's presence adds a touch of human warmth and sensitivity.
The entire collection speaks of inner peace, tradition, and the beauty of a life lived in close contact with nature. I hope that those who view these works feel invited to slow down the frenetic pace of the modern world, to rediscover the calm, faith, and balance that only nature can offer.
4. If you could meet an artist from the past and observe these six works, who would you choose?
Since childhood, I've been fascinated by the great masters of our time. If I could choose a few to meet and observe up close, my mind would immediately turn to giants like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Monet. Alongside them, I also feel a deep connection with the great painters of my homeland, such as Nicolae Grigorescu and Stefan Luchian—the latter universally known as "the flower painter." Each of them has left an indelible mark on my way of seeing art.
5. If you had to describe your art in three words, which would you choose?
If I had to summarize the essence and profound message of my paintings in three key words, I would undoubtedly choose: Balance, Tradition, and Harmony.
