From Singapore to the Louvre: Susanna Wong talks about her art.

Interview with artist Susanna Wong on the occasion of her participation in the "Art Shopping" International Contemporary Art Fair at Le Salles du Carrousel du Louvre in Paris (Stand B47).

1. Welcome to ILoveItaly News, Susanna. What does it mean to you to bring your artistic vision to the Carrousel du Louvre, one of the beating hearts of the international art world?

It's truly exciting and an honour to exhibit at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris! As a Singaporean contemporary artist, I'm delighted to share my artistic journey with an international audience. For me, art has no boundaries. It connects people from different cultures through colours, emotions and stories. I'm looking forward to meeting art lovers, exchanging ideas and, hopefully, bringing a little joy and inspiration through my paintings.

2. Birds frequently appear in your work. How do your connection to nature and your travels influence this ongoing exploration of parallels between the natural world and the human inner experience?

I've always been fascinated by birds! They are beautiful, expressive and full of character. Sometimes, when I watch them, I see so much of ourselves in their behaviour. They compete, protect, love, struggle and enjoy their freedom, just like we do! My travels and encounters with nature constantly inspire me. Through birds, I explore human emotions such as love, courage, hope and resilience. To me, every bird has a story to tell, and sometimes that story is our own.

3. Tell us about the piece you will be exhibiting on this occasion.

My painting, HARMONY, is part of my AERIAL | STATES series, which explores birds as reflections of human emotions and relationships. The painting features three birds, each with its own character and energy, yet sharing the same space. Through bold colours and expressive movements, I wanted to capture a simple message: we may be different, but we can still live together in harmony. After all, isn't that what our world needs a little more of today?

4. On your website, you state that "beauty does not shout, but waits in silence" and that art expresses intimate concepts that words cannot capture. In a contemporary world that is often hectic and noisy, what role do you hope your painting plays in the lives of those who view and experience your work?

I believe art gives us a moment to slow down, look around and feel something beyond our busy lives. When someone stands in front of my painting, I don't expect them to see exactly what I see. I love it when they discover their own stories, memories or emotions through my colours. One of my greatest joys as an artist is seeing people smile, pause or become curious about my work. Sometimes, a painting can speak to our hearts without saying a single word. That's the beauty of art!

5. Do you have any plans or dreams for your artistic future?

Oh yes, definitely! I still have so many ideas, colours and stories waiting to come alive on canvas! I hope to continue exploring new techniques, experimenting with different materials and bringing my art to more places around the world. More importantly, I want to keep learning, growing and connecting with people through my paintings. I started my full-time artistic journey later in life, and it has taught me something wonderful: it's never too late to follow your passion! As long as I have the energy and inspiration, I'll keep painting, exploring and enjoying this colourful journey!
