1. Ciao Nadia, ben ritrovata!

From New York to Paris: the dreamlike universe of Nadia Bussacchini.

Interview with artist Nadia Bussacchini on the occasion of her participation in the "Art Shopping" International Contemporary Art Fair at Le Salles du Carrousel du Louvre in Paris (Stand B47).

1. Hi Nadia, welcome back! After your success at the Fridman Gallery in New York back in June, it is a pleasure to meet you here at 'Art Shopping'. What are your emotions ahead of this exhibition? Is this your first time in Paris?

It is indeed my first time in Paris, and it feels truly indescribable. Being here, part of such a prestigious event surrounded by so many talented artists from all over the world, is a gift that fills me with gratitude. Honestly, there was a time when I never would have imagined my artistic vision could lead me here. Exhibiting in Paris to share my work is both a huge thrill and a beautiful validation of this journey.

2. Contemplation is the title of the artwork on display at the Carrousel du Louvre. The protagonist is a woman's face, surrounded by marine creatures and a moth that seems to act almost as a guardian, a bringer of courage and light. While it is fascinating to think that every viewer can interpret the canvas freely, at the same time this female figure emerges powerfully, seemingly suspended in a temporal space between good and evil, almost on the verge of a decision. What is the actual state of mind of this woman, and what original message did you want to imprint on the canvas?

The piece is titled Contemplation precisely because this woman is contemplating the infinite possibilities that life has to offer. In reality, this painting is part of a triptych dedicated to the miracle of life and motherhood.

The first piece tells the story of the very beginning—life inside the womb; the second depicts the metamorphosis of the mother's body and spirit as the baby grows within her; and finally, there is Contemplation.

This canvas captures that suspended, magical moment when a mother holds her baby in her arms for the very first time. In that quiet moment, she begins to contemplate a future that doesn't exist yet: Who will they be? What will their personality be like? What color will their eyes be? It's a state of mind filled with wonder, hope, and a deep, overwhelming love.

3. In your artwork, a central role is entrusted to chiaroscuro and a management of light that evoke a dreamlike, suspended atmosphere. How did you work technically to achieve such a profound effect?

I've always been fascinated by light, shadow, and everything that exists in between. One cannot exist without the other: they complement each other, and shape form itself. I feel this reflects life perfectly, where every moment of light carries its own shadow, and vice versa.

My creative process grows directly out of this reflection: Is it the light that creates the shadow, or is it the shadow that defines the light? It all depends on how we choose to look at things.

The eyes see what the light projects into the heart, and that is where our reality is born—shaped by our mood, mindset, and attitude toward life.

4. In New York, you exhibited Serenity, a work characterized by what we defined as a thalassic vision. Could Serenity and Contemplation be considered, in a certain sense, linked to one another? Almost as if it were the same face represented at two different moments of its inner evolution?

Without even fully realizing it at times, my canvases have become a journal of my life—and, I believe, of the lives of many women.

It's like a book without words, where stories are told through brushstrokes, colors, forms, or the absence of form—whether perfect or imperfect. Life is a wonderful gift given to us by God and the Universe, and along this journey, every emotion and every single moment are connected.

5. In conclusion, what can we expect for the future? Are there already new projects on the horizon after this important Parisian milestone?

This is a time of incredible excitement and gratitude. Paris is a major milestone, but artistic exploration never stops. I am already working on new projects and upcoming exhibitions for the new year, where I will continue to explore these themes of the soul and the female figure. There will be new international stages coming up soon, and I can't wait to share more details once everything is finalized!
